The Piano Man in Sète …

pleyelWhile doing some food shopping in town, Dominique entered an exhibit -a combination of beautiful photos, paintings and pianos.  One of the exhibit organizer is restoring old pianos and is offering to everyone who is interested, a fully checked and tuned (old) piano. It can be to a school, a club or a private family.

It is his idea of fighting back the flow of Yamaha’s which tries to get the good, old handmade pianos out of the market. The guy, whose job is tuning pianos, collects pianos from families which have no space or use anymore for the piano, and finds a new home for it. He does the installation, tunes and finds the best spot in the room. The cost is € 350,- a year and for that he shows up if the piano has a problem and he comes once a year to tune anyway.

His project is now working for a year. It is a success. A lot of piano teachers are involved into it and, numerous families have now a piano at home. Schools are also responding positively; even if it is more complicated than expected since they have to get all kind of authorizations.
