Krell S-300i Integrated Stereo amplifier

s-300i-2_fs-u2009

The S-300i is the first Krell integrated amplifier to feature iPod connectivity and extends the award winning tradition of audiophile grade integrated amplifiers.

A low profile chassis fronted by an elegantly finished silver Aluminum front panel hints at the potent circuitry hidden within its walls. Small in stature but big in performance, the S-300i integrated amplifier develops 150 W into 8 Ohms and 300 W into 4 Ohms. Employing a massive 750 VA toroidal transformer and 38,000 microfarads of capacitance guarantees huge power capability for maximum dynamic impact. Both balanced and single-ended inputs are provided, and the Theater Throughput™ mode, developed by Krell, simplifies integration into home theater systems. Robust WBT binding posts provide superior loudspeaker cable termination. New for the S-300i is direct connection for all generations of Apple iPods /iPhones with complete control of the iPod functionality via the included remote control. Unique for the category, the S-300i taps audio from the fully differential output included in the internal DACs of iPods/iPhones and maintains this balanced signal throughout the circuitry.

The S-300i features the latest Krell Class A, direct coupled design, and fully balanced preamplifier circuitry for the lowest noise reproduction possible. Krell Current Mode provides unequaled bandwidth for the most revealing playback of today’s high resolution music sources. Direct coupled circuitry eliminates impact-robbing capacitors from the signal path and an elegant, custom-machined level control adjusts volume.

The included solid aluminum remote control replicates all front panel options as well as providing control for a connected iPod/iPhone. RS-232 is also included for inclusion in advanced control systems.

Krell Phantom III Stereo Preamplifier

JAGstudios_KRELL_0002r

The Phantom III is the first Krell preamplifier to include either an optional digital input module or a headphone output. The digital module features AES/EBU, coaxial, and optical digital inputs for use with streaming devices or other digital sources. The Phantom III is the perfect centerpiece for a world class digital and analog audio system.

Circuitry Highlights

The Phantom preamplifier is a dual monaural design with the left and right channels afforded their own power supply regulation and individual circuit boards. All signal gain is executed with surface mount technology using proprietary multiple-output current mirrors with nearly 500 times the open loop linearity of other designs. Featuring 700 kHz bandwidth in a zero feedback, balanced, Krell Current Mode design, the Phantom III shares the same design philosophy as its bigger brother, the flagship Phantom preamplifier. Negative feedback is not used anywhere in the preamp, nor is it necessary. Open-loop distortion is typically less than 0.003%. The volume control is realized with a balanced resistor ladder – bandwidth and transient response of the preamp circuitry are virtually unaffected by the volume setting. The headphone circuitry is identical to the main circuitry, offering private listening with the same performance as speaker playback.

Digital Module Highlights

The digital module supports up to 24 bit/192kHz LPCM. All digital signals are fed to an ESS Sabre DAC and then sent to Krell’s Current Mode, discrete, balanced analog circuitry. Being a modular design, the optional digital converter module is easily added at any time.

Power Supply Highlights

Oversized for a preamplifier, the power supply features a 95 VA transformer and 40,000 µF of capacitance giving it the ability to respond quickly to musical demands. The large power supply improves noise rejection and renders the Phantom III impervious to all but the most severe AC voltage power fluctuations. A new eco-friendly standby mode reduces power consumption to 2W

The Phantom III preamplifier is available in silver or black finish.

Copland CTA305 Preamplifier

Copland_CTA-305Intended to be at the centre of a high performance audio system, the CTA305 is a flexible control amplifier which features switching of five line-level inputs, including a tape monitor loop, and a built in RIAA phono circuit accommodating moving magnet and high output moving coil cartridges.

For the listener with a large investment in LPs, this amplifier provides an opportunity to recover more nuances from irreplaceable records.

Besides amplifying the signal a few times and providing the facility of switching input sources, the primary purpose of the preamplifier is to control the sound level while matching the impedances between the signal source and the power amplifier.

The amplifying and buffering circuitry of the CTA305 is composed by reliable type 6922 low noise valves, presenting high impedance towards the signal sources in order not to load the audio signal. Conversely, the output impedance is low and therefore capable of driving an interconnect cable of unspecified electric characteristics and a power amplifier with an input impedance of anywhere between a few thousand and one million ohms.

High quality polypropylene and polystyrene capacitors are used exclusively in the signal path of the CTA305, These capacitors eliminate blurring of sonic details coursed by dielectric losses and dynamic changes of capacitors found in conventional components.

All resistors are of close tolerance film construction, providing high accuracy and long-term stability.

Discrete dc power supply regulators with nearly zero output impedance provide stable plate voltages. By also employing regulated supply voltage to the filaments of the valves, the working conditions for the valves handling the delicate audio signals are completely stable from a dc point of view, unaffected by the fluctuations of the ac-line voltage.

The CTA305 employs motor driven precision volume control and can be fully operated from the Copland remote control unit.

Copland CTA405 Integrated Amplifier

coplandcta405The CTA405 is an integrated valve amplifier with five line-level inputs, including a tape monitor loop, and a built in RIAA phono circuit accommodating moving magnet and high output moving coil cartridges.

A complete line stage similar to the one found in the Copland CTA305 preamplifier is installed separately together with a dedicated power supply, providing a low output impedance buffer between the amplifier interconnect cables and the level control prior to the power amplifier.

The push pull output stages consist of a pair of matched 6550 power valves in fixed ultra-linear configuration, delivering the low distortion of triodes combined with the power of tetrode valves.

The operation point of the output stage is set for class AB operation. In practice, this means that the first 50% of the output power is provided in class A condition.

The output transformers are highly critical components of the valve amplifier. Decades of experience in this particular field of audio electronics are incorporated in our design of these critical parts of the valve amplifier, and excellent specifications can be measured at more than twice the rated output power of 50 W per channel chosen for this construction.

Due to the outstanding performance of the Copland output transformers, superb linearity is achieved before feedback is employed; reducing the requirements for internal lag compensation networks and ensuring high stability after the 18dB negative feedback loop is closed.

The CTA405 is able to provide what we consider an extraordinarily accurate reproduction of music without any tendency towards listening fatigue, featuring strong dynamics and a wide flexibility in the choice of speakers.

The CTA405 employs motor driven volume control and can be fully controlled by the Copland RC102 remote control unit.
