What is a Kiseki N.O.S. cartridge?

N.O.S. is known to be standing for New Old Stock, like with tubes. Suddenly after 40 years someone finds in a cellar or attic a carton full of never used Siemens E288CC tubes or other beauties. These are N.O.S. tubes. In our case we gave a different meaning to N.O.S. It stands for New Old Style.

A Kiseki New Old Style cartridge is a cartridge made during 2010-2014 out of a mix from old Kiseki parts from between 1981-1990 and parts currently available.

The choice of parts is easy: if parts are available from the past and no better parts are available now, the choice is “past”. If parts are available from the past, but better parts are available now, the choice is “now”. With the mix of these parts we make the maximum number of cartridges.

So for the Kiseki Blue N.O.S. we could make between 100 and 105 cartridges, which resulted after prototyping in 100 cartridges for sale (minus 1 for Herman van den Dungen, thus it means 99 pieces). The second N.O.S.  model, which was on review in Hong Kong, only 49 pieces were made. We are offering these as long as we have stock. Once the N.O.S. versions are gone, these will be gone for ever.

For the same reason the machine has been used here (in The Netherlands) very little and is actually in “new” condition. While being one of the most caring audiophiles we know, he even bought himself a spare laser in case of a future need for it. This spare laser comes with the player. kisekipaintingだから…私たちは、新しいカートリッジと “名前”が必要とされたました。私は私の日本人の友人の一人「私は新しいスタートを切る」の日本語訳を尋ねた。答えは “Atara々しいkadode」またはそのような何かだった。私は戻って答えた：「ブランド名などのカートリッジで印刷するには長すぎる」。だから私は「奇跡」の日本語訳を求めた。答えは…「奇跡」。私は高10メートルを跳んだ。新しいブランド名が発見された、美しい名前は、私たちのハイエンドの家族の友人の一人によって、このような失礼な方法で私とDaveから誘拐された私の元光悦の子…継続するフォローアップするためにどのような。

So … we had a new cartridge and a “name” was needed. I asked one of my Japanese friends the Japanese translation of “I make a new start”. The answer was “Atara shii kadode” or something like that. I answered back: “too long to print on a cartridge as brand name”. So I asked for the Japanese translation of  “miracle”. The answer was … “Kiseki”. I jumped 10 meters high. A new brand name was found and what a beautiful name to follow up my former Koetsu child which was kidnapped from me and Dave in such a rude way by one of our high-end family friends … To be continued.

Back in the days!

The other step I had taken, was contacting some of my Japanese friends and explained them that I needed extremely urgently a new cartridge to compete with Koetsu. At least same quality and if possible lower in price. In the Netherlands I made a hand-drawing for the body of a cartridge, my friends who I was making tone arms with (and small parts for worldchampionship mini-aviation speedmachines) made immediately 6 aluminium bodies and those were sent to 3 cartridge makers in Japan. Specs and details were given (and yes, these were as close as possible to those of Koetsu), suggestions for better sound added and as an extra I asked for consistent reproduction possibility of the quality and a best price. I could add some of my own ideas and I could emphasize on what I wanted and certainly on what I did not want as I had built up in the meantime a lot of experience. With diamond shapes, internal damping, magnets, charging of magnets etc.  Once the 6 cartridges were sent to Holland me and my team did many blind tests in different set ups and finally decided for the new cartridge.
