Krell meldt enthousiast dat ze een verschrikkelijk goede test gekregen hebben in de Mei 2012 uitgave van Stereophile, een van de twee toonaangevende hifi tijdschriften in de USA.

Fred Kaplan schrijft “The remarkable thing about the Cipher was that it unveiled all the details without losing what makes them add up to music: the seamless dynamic contrasts, the holographic imaging of a voice…the uncanny sense that a foot is stepping on a pedal of a kick drum.”

 John Atkinson draagt ook zijn steentje bij, voor wat betreft de technische kant van het verhaal: “The Krell Cipher’s performance can be summed up in one word: superb.”

Fred’s conclusie luidt als volgt “the Krell Cipher is a great CD player: the best I have heard in its price range, and the best I’ve heard, period, in my home system.”

Aan het einde van het artikel, geeft Fred Kaplan aan dat hij de speler graag zou willen aanschaffen en dat is precies wat hij heeft gedaan!
